If you’re seeking a car that’s efficient and innovative in equal measure, the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid is tough to beat. It’s loaded with sophisticated technology, and its refined hybrid powertrain delivers a superb money-saving performance.
A Brief Introduction to the CR-V
The Honda CR-V is a compact crossover SUV with a history dating back to 1995. Easy to drive with a smooth ride quality, the CR-V fulfills its “Comfortable Runabout Vehicle” intent. It has a spacious, well-built interior with intuitive controls and supportive seats that make long-distance drives a breeze. Although the CR-V is now in its sixth generation, the CR-V Hybrid was introduced in the 2020 model year as part of the fifth generation.
The CR-V Hybrid currently comes in three trim levels: Sport, Sport-L, and Sport Touring. You can have the Sport or Sport-L in FWD or AWD versions, whilst the Sport Touring trim is AWD as standard.
New CR-V Features in 2024
The Sport-L Hybrid trim was introduced in 2024, but there were no fundamental changes to CR-V features following a major revamp in 2023. Changes made the previous year included a restyled rugged exterior, a modernized, sportier interior, and a radically redesigned fourth-generation hybrid powertrain. The latter significantly enhanced the CR-V’s responsiveness and speed.
Honda’s near-new 204 hp hybrid powertrain features a 2.0L Atkinson cycle engine, two electric motors, and an electronic continuously variable transmission (ECV-T). This powertrain increased torque to 247 lb-ft and raised the top speed from 86 mph to 115 mph. It also enabled a 1,000 lb towing capacity. To improve eco-friendliness, there was a 22% reduction in NOx emissions and a 24% cut in THC emissions.
CR-V Hybrid Fuel Efficiency
FWD versions of the CR-V Hybrid achieve the best fuel efficiency with excellent figures of 43/36/40 mpg (city/highway/combined). If you choose AWD, you’ll still benefit from an economical 40/34/37 mpg. Four CR-V Hybrid driving modes affect fuel efficiency: Sport, Normal, ECON, and Snow.
Honda Sensing Technology
The Honda CR-V Hybrid is full of advanced technologies, many of them wrapped in the Honda Sensing driver-assistance suite. This suite generally aims to keep you positioned safely on the road and will automatically brake or steer if a collision seems likely. Traffic Sign Recognition and Blind Spot Information are two nice inclusions across all hybrid trims. Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow is another.
