Honda’s been building hybrids since 2000, starting with the Insight, which became the most fuel-efficient non-plug-in car you could buy in the U.S. Then came the Civic Hybrid in 2003, followed by the Accord Hybrid in 2005, and from there, the lineup kept growing. Over two decades of real-world experience are now baked into the company’s latest hybrid options.

1. Civic Sedan Hybrid

This model runs on the fourth generation of Honda’s award-winning two-motor hybrid-electric powertrain, and it’s a big step up from what other hybrids offer. For instance, instead of a traditional transmission, it uses one motor to drive the wheels and another to generate power, with the gas engine stepping in through a single gear when needed.

The result is power that feels more like an electric vehicle than a regular hybrid. Acceleration is quick, and with a combined 200 horsepower and instant electric torque, it’s got enough punch to catch you off-guard at a stoplight. It goes from zero to sixty mph in the low six-second range and manages 50 mpg in the city and 47 mpg on the highway.

2. Civic Hatchback Hybrid

The Civic Hatchback Hybrid keeps almost everything you get in the sedan, though its highway fuel ratings dip slightly to 45 mpg. But it gives you something extra in return: a spacious cargo area with 24.5 cubic feet of room compared to the sedan’s 14.8.

3. Accord Hybrid

If the two Civic hybrids feel a bit tight, the Accord Hybrid sorts that out fast. The rear space stretches out properly to fit taller adults, the power jumps to 204 horsepower, and it still pulls off 51 mpg in the city and 47 mpg on the highway. Tech and comfort move up a class, too: an extra-wide 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, second-row USB ports, a head-up display, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats.

4. CR-V Hybrid

Front-wheel drive CR-V Hybrids are the most fuel-efficient of the bunch, achieving 43 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. Even all-wheel drive variants are frugal (40 mpg highway/34 mpg city). This SUV matches that efficiency with serious practicality. Its cargo area fits 11 carry-on suitcases with the rear seats up and up to 29 when flat.
